THE AMHERST COUNTY FAIR IS: OCTOBER 2024

Volunteers

Amherst County is family and community oriented and proud to hold the annual County Fair. Volunteers are a vital part of the fair and make it possible for everyone to enjoy this County event. Consider giving back by volunteering and returning to enjoy the fair yourself!

Bounce House Arena

Our little guests need a place to enjoy the fair too!! You will need to make sure that before any child is allowed to play on the bounce houses their parent has signed the waiver. Bring completed waivers to the volunteer tent at the end of your shift. All volunteers will be given breaks as needed, we simply ask you to coordinate your breaks in a manner that does not leave us significantly under staffed. Bounce House Arena volunteers that are given radios will be asked to sign them out/in at the volunteer tent. PLEASE do not take the radios home with you. Make sure you drink lots of water. If you have any questions you can always reach a volunteer coordinator by radio during the fair.

Clean Up/Refuse Collection

Our clean up/refuse collection crew is essential to keeping our fair looking great!! You will need to familiarize yourself with all of the trash cans posted around the fairgrounds. You will be given a gator to drive around to transport the bags of trash from the fairgrounds to the onsite dumpsters. We will provide you with gloves to wear! We ask that you please tie the trash bag before loading onto the back of your gator. Once you have collected all of the full trash bags, you can take them to the dumpsters. You can now relax until the trash cans fill back up! Please do not let them get too full! They will be hard to tie and get on the back of your gator if they are too stuffed. All volunteers will be given breaks as needed, we simply ask you to coordinate your breaks in a manner that does not leave us significantly under staffed. Clean up/refuse volunteers that are given radios will be asked to sign them out/in at the volunteer tent. PLEASE do not take the radios home with you. Make sure you drink lots of water. If you have any questions you can reach a volunteer coordinator by radio at all times during the fair.

Front Gate

You are the first people that our guests will see when they arrive at our fair. Remember to smile and welcome them all to the Amherst County Fair. You will be collecting money for anyone over the age of 3 years old. Age 3 and under are FREE. You may also scan pre-sold admission tickets. You may also perform other duties like hand stamping as needed at the front gate. There will be a deputy stationed at the front gate if further assistance is required. The only outside food that will be permitted is bottles/snacks for little children. (Please use your best judgement) Volunteers may also bring in snacks. A couple things to remember…volunteers get in FREE. If someone says they are a volunteer please direct them to the volunteer check-in. Once a volunteer has been checked in they will be given passes that have the fair logo on them to use throughout the weekend to get through the front gate without having to pay! Only one pass will be given per volunteer. If you are shown a volunteer pass, which counts as their admission, please let them continue into the fair. This is for the volunteer ONLY!!! There will be someone coming around every now and then to collect monies from you so that the front gate does not have too much money at any point and time. That person will identify themselves. If you have any concerns about who is collecting money please call one of the volunteer coordinators immediately. All volunteers will be given breaks as needed, we simply ask you to coordinate your breaks in a manner that does not leave us significantly under staffed. Front gate volunteers that are given radios will be asked to sign them out/in at the volunteer tent. PLEASE do not take the radios home with you. Make sure you drink lots of water. If you have any questions you can reach a volunteer coordinator by radio at all times during the fair.

General Assistance/Floater

General assistance volunteers, you are our “go to” people! There will be tons of “little things” that will need to happen around the fair. You will help make sure all of the other volunteers are doing okay at their posts. If they need water or need to take a break, we may ask you to step into that job for a moment. You probably will not stay in the same place very long. All volunteers will be given breaks as needed, we simply ask you to coordinate your breaks in a manner that does not leave us significantly under staffed. General Assistance volunteers that are given radios will be asked to sign them out/in. PLEASE do not take the radios home with you. Make sure you drink lots of water. If you have any questions you can reach a volunteer coordinator by radio at all times during the fair.
