2025 Amherst County Fair September 4th-7th

Volunteers

Amherst County is family and community oriented and proud to hold the annual County Fair. Volunteers are a vital part of the fair and make it possible for everyone to enjoy this County event. Consider giving back by volunteering and returning to enjoy the fair yourself!

Bounce House Arena

Our little guests need a place to enjoy the fair, too!! You will need to ensure that, before any child is allowed to play on the bounce house, their parent has signed the waiver. Bring completed waivers to the volunteer check-in at the end of your shift.

Trash Pickup

Our trash pickup crew is essential to keeping our fair looking great!! You will need to familiarize yourself with all of the trash cans posted around the fairgrounds. You will be given a gator to drive around to transport the bags of trash from the fairgrounds to the onsite dumpsters. We will provide you with gloves to wear! We kindly request that you tie the trash bag before loading it onto the back of your Gator. Once you have collected all of the full trash bags, you can take them to the dumpsters. You can now relax until the trash cans fill back up! Please do not let them get too full! They will be hard to tie and get on the back of your Gator if they are too stuffed. Volunteers without a driver’s license will be partnered with someone who does.

Main Gate

You are the first people that our guests will see when they arrive at our fair. Remember to smile and welcome them all to the Amherst County Fair. You will be collecting money for anyone over the age of 3 years old. Age 3 and under are FREE. You may also perform other duties, like hand stamping, as needed, at the front gate. A Front Gate Coordinator will be stationed at the front gate for further assistance if required. The only outside food permitted is bottled water and snacks for small children. (Please use your best judgment) Volunteers may also bring in snacks. A couple of things to remember: volunteers get in free. If someone is volunteering, please direct them to the volunteer check-in area. Once a volunteer has been checked in, they will be given a voucher for one fair entry, which can be used at a later date. If you are shown a volunteer pass, which counts as their admission, please let them continue into the fair. This is for one entry ONLY!!! There may be someone coming around periodically to collect cash from you, so that the front gate does not have too much money at any given time. That person will identify themselves. If you have any concerns about who is collecting money, please call the Main Gate Manager.

Golf Cart Driver

All golf cart volunteers are expected to attend a training session on Wednesday night, September 3rd, and follow all instructions provided by the Coordinator and Amherst County Sheriff’s Deputies. All golf cart volunteers must have a valid driver’s license. Golf carts will be stationed in our parking areas to assist in transporting guests from their vehicles to the fairgrounds. Golf carts are NOT permitted to be on the roads. Please refrain from using cell phones while operating the golf cart to ensure everyone’s safety at our fair.

Parking

All parking volunteers are expected to attend a training session on Wednesday night, September 3rd, and follow all instructions provided by the Coordinator and Amherst County Sheriff’s deputies. You will be stationed in one of our parking areas to assist our guests in parking spots and ensure a smooth entry and exit of vehicles. Please feel free to bring a chair to use wherever you are stationed.

Volunteer Check-In

You will be checking in volunteers, marking their names off the master list as checked in, and notifying the Volunteer Coordinator if any volunteers are missing during each shift. You may also be asked to assist in other areas once volunteer check-in is complete.
